Immersed in multiple cultures, South Asian, American and disability, Grishma is a self-taught artist with formal training as a community psychologist. Believing one field informs the other, Grishma explores personal and societal contradictions through mixed media works and installations. Her work reflects the dissonance and allure found at the crossroads of culture and self-expression.

“In the spring of 2025, I had the pleasure of working with visual artist Grishma Shah on her solo exhibition, Dissonance: Physical Discomfort. Mental Disconnect. Merging Contradictions. This powerful body of work featured 66 artworks of her creation and curation, challenging perceptions of discomfort and inviting viewers to reflect on the tensions that shape our lives. Through immersive installations and mixed-media pieces, Grishma explored the complexities of identity, culture, and self-expression in a deeply personal and thought-provoking way.

Dissonance ran from May 16 to July 3, 2025, in our 5,000-square-foot, third-floor gallery space at the Bridgeport Art Center. Grishma’s dedication to engaging audiences, paired with her enthusiasm for collaborating with our marketing and promotional team, resulted in exceptional opening night attendance. Despite a Chicago dust storm, nearly 1,000 visitors attended her reception during our monthly Open Studios event. Her variety of work strongly resonated with guests from numerous communities, and the exhibition's six-week run drew an estimated attendance in the thousands.

It was a true pleasure working with Grishma. She is a talented artist, a gifted storyteller, and a consummate professional. I would welcome the opportunity to collaborate with her again in the future.”
